Notes: It is likely that the two individuals referred to in this message stick are are Rosie Guritjaluk from Goulburn Island who married Andrew Birrinydjawuy in Milingimbi in 1927. This story is written up here: https://messagesticks.com.au/guritjaluk-must-not-marry-andrew-milingimbi-too-far/ Many of the images of "Rosie" in SLNSW metadata are in fact images of Rosie of Mapoon and not Guritjaluk. Note also that the image of Rosie on p192 of Hamby, Louise, and with Dr Gumbula. 2015. "Development of collecting at the Milingimbi Mission." In Strings of connectedness: Essays in honour of Ian Keen, edited by Peter G Toner, 187-214. Canberra: ANU Press, is also likely to be Rosie of Mapoon and not Rosie "wife of Andrew Birrinydjawuy Garawirrtja" per the caption (pers. comm. Bronwyn Shepherd). Many more images of Andrew Birrinydjawuy are in: Gumbula, Joseph Neparrŋa. 2011. Mali’ Buku-Rruŋanmaram: Images from Miliŋinbi (Milingimbi) and Surrounds, 1926–1948. Sydney: Darlington Press. There are only two positive images of Guritjaluk, and these are compiled here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwT-msqh7lnxF-YSkOAP0nSx3stcqMTp0xS0SO_WCHE/edit#heading=h.h3gfbbqdb0y3 AR: Checked against original SAM register.
