Title: A message stick from New South Wales held in the Australian Museum

Description: Summary: Very little is known about this message stick purported to be from the Riverina region. It was collected by the artist and explorer Harry Stockdale who sold it to the Australian Museum in 1898. Stockdale was a horseman who explored the northwest of Australia. He was certainly familiar with the Riverina, and had acquired two bullroarers from that region, also sold to the museum. Without documentation on the circumstances of collection it will be unlikely that descendants can be found.
